Oyster and seafood enthusiasts are invited to La Mer (at 1840 René-Lévesque Boulevard East) this Saturday, October 25th – where the festivities will begin at 11 am. Oystoberfest is a festive celebration of seafood products (can we get an amen?) that will feature a tasting of various oysters and seafood products and an oyster shucking contest, just to name a few. This one-of-a kind fish market serves up some of the freshest seafood in the city, and this gourmet autumn event is not to be missed.
Oyster ShuckingGuests can also look forward to the introduction of partnered restaurants and on-location shopping. While the grown ups are busy admiring kitchen accessories and products from local artisans, the kids will be able have fun at the events planned especially for them. Concerned about possible cold and unsavoury weather? La Mer will be a step ahead of the game, providing guests with a ‘warm-up’ to the beats of a DJ who will also be present.
In addition to the tastings, the grand prize winner of the oyster shucking contest will be provided with an enticing first prize: a crate of oysters each month for a year! Attendees can also look forward to La Mer’s special prices on the 40 varieties of oysters available in store. The shop has the largest selection of fresh oysters in Quebec, with new arrivals received daily. François- Xavier Dehedin and his team are proud to be hosting the tastings throughout the day, and will even let you in on some interesting oyster facts.
I had the pleasure of getting a sneak preview last week for what’s to come, and I can certify that La Mer serves up the best clam chowder in town. Hands down. I even went for a second helping.
