Not all gift ideas have to be for someone you know personally. Beyond our social circles, exists a large community of people we’ve never met, who could also use some holiday cheer. In the spirit of giving, sometimes it’s nice to give back to the community.
A few months back, our friends at Rev Communications hosted an event where they also encouraged us to bring a ‘shoebox’ filled with every-day goods that would be suitable for the modern woman who could use a little support. I found it touching that the ladies behind Rev took this innitiative, so we immediately began looking for items to contribute. The Nudabite team combined all of the essentials plus a few extras, so the woman who receives the box will certainly be able to indulge herself.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/178733966″ params=”color=ff5500″ width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
The Shoebox Project was recently featured on City Line, and is a Canada-wise project which collects and distributes gifts in the form of shoeboxes to women in shelters across the country. The idea behind the project, is to fill each shoebox with little luxurious items that any woman would enjoy, but not splurge on for herself in difficult times. These shoeboxes let the women know they are special and not forgotten.
Putting together a shoebox is easy and this small gesture of kindness is very much appreciated by its recipient. The goal is to brighten the days of women living in our country’s shelters and let them know that their community does care about them.
Items can vary from things that women don’t necessarily need, but would appreciate. Items such as socks, make-up, chocolate, bus tickets, hair accessories are all things that a gal could use on the daily, so share some of that goodness!
Mindfulness extends beyond what and who we know, so why not consider contributing to an amazing cause. The holidays can be difficult for women at the shelter, so why not spread a little cheer?
While the holiday drive is over for this year, The Shoebox Project accepts boxes and distributes them year round – so it’s never too late. The Shoebox project is not only Canada-wide, but also extends throughout the United States. If your friends or family happen to be our neighbours to the south, try to get them on board!
